(Jennifer’s note: This document mainly contains Chinese news reports on COVID-19 released at the beginning of the outbreak (from December 1 to January 31). Some of these were published by Chinese news media and local Chinese governments. These news articles provide reliable clues to the Chinese government’s possible intention to silence and cover up the epidemic. Many articles were later deleted from the Internet, but a group of interested people have saved them on GitHub. They organize the archives into a timeline with the purpose of “preserving” history so that the truth will not be hidden or forgotten over time. The original timeline is in Chinese. This is an English translation so that Western readers can also learn the truth behind the Covid-19 outbreak.

 December 1, 2019

·       The first Wuhan resident had symptoms of unexplained pneumonia (Diagnosed afterwards, it was unknow pneumonia of unknown cause at the time and no doctor found and reported). According to Wu Wenxuan, director of the intensive care unit (ICU) of Jinyintan Hospital, the patient was a man in his 70s with a bit of a cerebral infarction and Alzheimer’s disease. After became ill, he was admitted to another hospital in Wuhan, but as his condition worsened, he was transferred to Jinyintan Hospital on December 29. The old man lived four or five stops (bus stop) away from the seafood market, because he had been ill at home, basically did not go out, and did not go to the South China seafood market. December 4, 2019

·       The Hubei CDC held the 2019 training course on the maintenance and geoanalysis of direct reporting codes in the province from December 4 to 7, with the participation of the heads of departments responsible for the reporting and management of infectious disease outbreaks in 17 cities and counties in the province and the business personnel responsible for standard coding maintenance. The meeting was chaired by Huang Shuqiong, Director of the Disease Surveillance Department of the Information Institute, and attended the opening ceremony by Huang Xibao, Vice President of the Provincial CDC, Li Mingyan, Director of the Information Institute, and Vice Director Liu Kehao. President Huang put forward three points of view: First, to determine the achievements, carefully summarize, to ensure the comprehensive quality of infectious disease information the first good results in the country. Second, to attach great importance to clear requirements to ensure that the annual code maintenance work is completed on time with quality and quantity. December 8, 2019

·       January 11: The  Wuhan Health and Wellness Commission informed that patients in the earliest onset of the disease began to develop symptoms. According to the Wuhan City Coronavirus Prevention and Control Command Medical Treatment Unit, the patient surnamed Chen was later treated by the hospital has been cured and discharged from the hospital. ·       Three Wuhan residents were admitted to hospital with medical conditions (diagnosed afterwards, and later learned that one case was related to South China Seafood City, and that no epidemiological link could be found between the patient and ‘patient Zero”. December 11, 2019 December 12, 2019

·       Liu Yong (pseudonym), an outpatient doctor at Yufu Hospital in Wuhan (200 meters from the South China Seafood Market), received a merchant from the South China Seafood Market, Huang, 69, who had a dry cough, no fever and no runny nose. ·       On the same day, a 69-year-old (70-year-old) Zheng surnamed distribution clerk who was in charge of purchasing for a hotel in Jingzhou at the South China Seafood Market began to develop fever symptoms. Initially the infusion in the small clinic failed to de-fever, on December 16 he went to Wuhan Yufu Hospital for medical treatment, after treatment of the condition has not yet been alleviated, at the doctor’s suggestion and transferred to Wuhan Red Cross Hospital hospital for inpatient treatment. After seven days of hospitalization, the condition did not improve and he was transferred to Tongji Hospital on 24 December. After treatment, he was ready to be discharged from the hospital, but was transferred to Jinyintan Hospital on December 29 (another source says 31st) and later cured and returned to Jingzhou before Wuhan closed the city. December 13, 2019

·       Liu Yong (pseudonym), an outpatient doctor at Youfu Hospital in Wuhan, reminded colleagues that as long as they are visiting patients in the South China seafood market, everyone provides a general surgical mask free of charge. ·       On the same day (some other source says Dec 15th), a 65-year-old male delivery man from South China Seafood Market began to develop fever symptoms and went to the Wuhan Central Hospital (Nanjing Road Hospital District) on December 16. After oral medication, the patient’s condition has not improved and he was admitted to the hospital’s emergency ward on 18 December. As the cause of the high fever did not recede and the cause was unknown, wuhan Central Hospital carried out an alveoli fiber bronchoscopy sample on December 24 and sent the sample to Guangzhou Microgene Technology Co., Ltd. for NGS testing to determine the pathogen (see article of 26 December). The patient was transferred to Tongji Hospital on 25 December and then to Jinyintan Hospital on 30 December, where he died on 30 January 2020. December 16, 2019

·       A 41-year-old male patient surnamed Chen from Jiangxia District, Wuhan, began to develop fever symptoms, and according to subsequent epidemiological investigations, the patient had no history of exposure to the South China seafood market. Six days after the fever, the patient was admitted to the Respiratory Department of Jiangxia District People’s Hospital on 22 December. After 5 days of treatment, the patient’s condition failed to improve, and he was transferred to Wuhan Central Hospital (Nanjing Road Hospital District) on December 27, and in the afternoon, he was also arranged to take a sample of bronchial alveoli irrigation fluid and sent to Beijing Boao Medical Examination Institute Co., Ltd. to test the pathogen (see article of December 30). December 17, 2019

·       1 Wuhan resident developed a medical condition (diagnosed afterwards and later known to be related to South China Seafood City). See Chaolin Huang, et al. ·       Around December 16-17, a 44-year-old northeasterly man working at a frozen fresh stall in a South China seafood market began to develop fever symptoms. After several days of persistent high fever at home, he went to Wuhan Sixth Hospital for treatment and was transferred to Tongji Hospital on December 24. Later, on December 26, the hospital took a sample of bronchial alveoli irrigation fluid and sent the sample to Huada Gene for testing of the pathogenic microorganism NGS. On 31 December, the patient was transferred to Jinyintan Hospital for treatment. Another said that the patient was transferred to Concord Hospital and samples were sent to Huada (BGI) gene testing, BGI has detected that the virus and SARS gene sequence similarity in the sample is as high as 80%, but the SARS test kit test is negative. On December 30, Lab of the BGI Group verbally informed Concord Hospital of the test results and recommended that the hospital report to the Wuhan Municipal Health and Wellness Commission (see article of January 1). December 20, 2019

·       Five Wuhan residents developed a medical condition (diagnosed afterwards and later known to be related to South China Seafood City). Among them, Wuhan residents had a certain start of fever, cough, weakness, on December 27 in Wuhan City, Puren Hospital treatment, transferred to Jinyintan Hospital on December 31, and finally died on January 9, the first case of death after the outbreak was found. His wife (no history of exposure to the South China Seafood Market) also became ill five days after his illness, the first reported case of “human-to-human transmission” (see article of 15 January). ·       The decision-making level of The Steady Medical Supplies Co., Ltd., referred to as Steady Medical, decided to cancel the year-end executive meeting in Hubei and change it to Yangyan Venue and Shenzhen Venue Video Conference.

·       On the same day, a 41-year-old Fujian Quanzhou man surnamed Chen, who was doing business at the South China Seafood Market, began to develop fever symptoms and was admitted to Wuhan Central Hospital (Back Lake Hospital District) on December 26 for treatment. December 25, 2019

December 26, 2019

December 27, 2019

·       2 Wuhan residents developed the disease (diagnosed afterwards and later known to be related to South China Seafood City). See Chaolin Huang, et al. ·       On the same day, Director Zhang Jixian of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of Hubei Provincial Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine reported the conditions of these four people (with the same symptoms on chest radiographs) to the business dean Xia Wenguang, the hospital’s hospital and the medical department, and the hospital immediately reported to Jianghan District Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Wang Wenyong, Chief of the Infectious Disease Control Section of the Jianghan District Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Wuhan, received the report. He arrived at the hospital at 16 o’clock for sampling and left at 18 o’clock. ·       At about 18:00, Zhang Dingyu, director of Jinyintan Hospital in Wuhan City, and Huang Chaolin, the hospital dean, were all in the office. President Huang received a call from a professor at Tongji Hospital to refer a patient to Jin Yintan. The other side said it was a patient infected with coronavirus, not pneumonia. The two immediately called the experts of Beijing Ditan Hospital, asked this patient should we receive? The experts of Ditan Hospital immediately replied, “You should accept, JinYintan is an infectious disease hospital, this patient you should pay attention to.” ” I immediately called Tongji Hospital again and asked them to turn the patient over.” The patient was originally referred from Wuhan Second Hospital (Wuhan City Central Hospital) to Tongji, let him transfer to our such an institution, he did not want to. ·       On the same day, patient Li Jing (pseudonym) was admitted to Wuhan Central Hospital for treatment of gallbladder disease. December 28, 2019

·       The Emergency Department of the Houhu District of Wuhan Central Hospital received 4 cases of fever patients related to the South China Seafood Market. By around 1 January 2020, the hospital had admitted seven cases of pneumonia for unknown causes. See February 17 China Newsweek | personal story: Wuhan City Center Hospital infected from the beginning and end.  

·       The Infectious Disease Prevention Department of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Jianghan District, Wuhan City, sent samples from Hubei Central and Western Union Hospital to the Wuhan CDC, where the laboratory conducted more than 20 pathogen tests, and it’s still negative. Wang Wenyong, head of the infectious disease prevention department at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Jianghan District, Wuhan, said, “We were all cautious at the time and thought it was strange to speculate that it might be a cluster infection caused by a pathogen that we didn’t know about.” Because it was a family of three who were sick at the time, it was obviously contagious. ·       At 13:00 hours, Xia Wenguang, director of the Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital in Hubei Province, convened 10 experts from the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Hospital Sense, Cardiovascular, ICU, Radiation, Pharmacy, Clinical Examination, Infection and Medical Department. These 7 cases were discussed one by one, imaging special, systemic symptoms are obvious, laboratory examination of myoenzyme, liver enzymes have changes, experts agreed that this situation is indeed abnormal, to cause great attention. ·       Singapore United Morning Post: Wuhan has been treating patients with unexplained pneumonia, the network spread suspected SARS outbreak again. ·       The General Office of the State Council issued a Notice on the Extension of the 2020 Spring Festival Holiday and decided to extend the Spring Festival Holiday in 2020 until February 2 (the ninth day of the Lunar New Year, Sunday) and to go back to work on Monday, February 3.

·       In the evening, Ma Xiaowei, director of the National Health Care Commission, said in a telephone call with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Aza that President Trump and himself appreciated the Chinese government’s transparent stance in the prevention and control of the outbreak and the ongoing health cooperation between the two sides, and was happy to see WHO and other parties working closely with China to combat the outbreak. The National Health Board has indicated to the United States that it welcomes its contact with WHO to express its desire to join the WHO Joint Expert Group of the Emergency Committee. ·       The New England Journal of Medicine published a paper, “The Early Transmission Dynamics of Pneumonia with New Coronary Virus Infection in Wuhan, China”,    The corresponding authors are Feng Zijian, deputy director of the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Yang Bo, director of the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Gao Fu, director of the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, are co-authors. Based on the analysis of 425 confirmed cases (including 15 medical staff) reported as of January 23, 2020, the paper concluded that there were clear characteristics of human-to-human transmission at the end of December. The article stated that medical staff had been infected in Wuhan from January 1 to 11. The next day, NEJM medical frontier WeChat public number reprinted a summary, spread in the domestic network. According to Eric Lushi, editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, the paper took only 48 hours from submission to publication.

The same technology has been used in China to help the CCP spread its propaganda effectively and efficiently, and to tell the story in the way that the CCP likes. First of all, what is News Break?

According to its own website, News Break is America’s  “#1 Intelligent Local News App”. It ranks No. 1 in both Google Play and Apple Store. 

An article at protocol.com says New Break has 45 million monthly active users and had 24 million installs via the App Store and Google Play in 2020, and was the most downloaded news app of last year.

News Break Uses “Interest-Based Engine” to Push News to 45 Million Americans

News Break’s core technology an “interest-based engine” (兴趣引擎) “, and the key to its success is an AI-curated personalized and localized news feed tailored for each user. It is mostly invested in the so-called “long-tail” needs, which means it caters to various niche interests, instead of only a few popular products. 

News Break’s founder Jeff Zheng said to Chinese media that News Break uses “recommendation + search + subscription + intelligent interaction” to achieve its goal.

The content is recommended according to the user’s browsing preferences so that everybody gets different content. News Break gathers information from users’ searches, subscriptions, and online interactions to recommend relevant channels and content for users to subscribe to.

So this is called an “interest-based engine”.

In Zheng’s eyes, content demand can be divided into time-sensitive and non-time-sensitive categories. Non-time-sensitive content can be further subdivided into three categories based on three kinds of user reactions: click and share, click without sharing or bookmarking, and click without sharing but bookmarking.

He said, “The last category of content that users like to read and are willing to bookmark, but are unwilling to share, or are not appropriate for sharing, is closely related to personal long tail needs and has greater personal value. For News Break, the last category of content is its main focus.”

Another selling point of News Break is that it says it focuses on local news. And it is not only a news aggregator, but also a Nextdoor and Craigslist. It also provides classified information such as local job listings, events, restaurants, deals and services for specific communities.

Well, that’s a short briefing for those who don’t know much about News Break yet. 

News Break, Yidian Zixun, and Jeff Zheng

 Now, let’s go check a little bit of the background of News Break: Who founded it? Who controls and runs it? Which means, who is pushing highly “personalized” content to 45 millions or more Americans?

According to publicly available information, News Break is owned by Particle Media. It was established by Jeff Zheng in April 2015, and is the English version of Yidian Zixun, a Chinese news aggregation app in China, which was also founded by Jeff Zheng.

 According to his LinkedIn page, Jeff Zheng obtained a Ph.D. in computer science at the University at Buffalo after he gained a Masters in Science degree at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He gained his Bachelor of Science degree from Tsinghua University in China.

He joined Yahoo in 2006 and became the founding head of Yahoo! Labs China in 2011.

In 2013, he founded Yidian Zixun, which can be translated as “one byte of information,” and acted as the CEO.

On the “Brand” page of Yidian Zixun, there used to be such a milestone:

The title of this milestone is “American Company”, or “Company in the US”.  The description is:

 “In April 2015, Yidian Zixun established Particle Media, an affiliate company in Silicon Valley, to launch its global strategic deployment, and the English version of Yidian Zixun, News Break, was recommended by the U.S. App store twice in a row and has become a popular news aggregation application in the United States.”

However, this important “milestone” was removed after Boston-based “The Wire China” published an in-depth investigation revealing News Break’s deep ties with China.

When The Wire China did that report, and asked about the relationship between News Break and Yidian Zixun, News Break said the statement on Yidian’s website was inaccurate and that its legal department would send a letter asking that it be removed.

When I did my follow up investigation, I found that if I search with the Chinese characters for “In April 2015, Yidian Zixun established Particle Media, an affiliate company in Silicon Valley”, I could get a lot of results.

However, when I clicked on some of the results, I was led to “404” error messages, which means the articles have been removed.

But articles on relatively smaller sites can still be found that mention Yidian Zixun establishing Particle Media in Silicon Valley, such as this one and this one published by bloggers on Sohu.

According to a report on one of China’s major web portals sina.com, from October 2014 to December 2016, Phoenix New Media acquired a 44.2 percent stake in Particle Media, a portion with a fair value of $135.3 million. It later sold out part of its share, but still held 3.63 percent of Particle Media as of 2019.

So this is to say, at the beginning stage of News Break’s founding, almost half of it was owned by Phoenix New Media. 

Please note that Particle Media is also the parent company of Yidian Zixun, and the second-largest shareholder of Yidian Zixun is Xiaomi, which is China’s second-largest cell phone maker with military ties. 

Remember I did a program of Xiaomi before? If you haven’t watched it, go back and take a look, so that you can connect all the dots together. 

Phoenix New Media’s parent company is Phoenix TV. Its CEO Liu Shuang was formerly the COO of Phoenix TV and a special assistant to Phoenix TV’s founder and former Chairman Liu Changle.

There is little information available on Particle Media, especially on Chinese websites. However, a pdf file of Phoenix New Media’s update on the sale of its shares in Yidian Zixun tells us this: 

Particle Media was registered in the Cayman Islands on July 22, 2013, as an exempted company, and on July 30, 2013, one week after its registration, Particle (HK) Ltd. was registered in Hong Kong to complete the shareholding transaction between Particle Media and Phoenix New Media.

According to The Wire China, Jeff Zheng founded Particle Media Inc. in Delaware in 2015, with its company headquarters in Mountain View.

Jeff  Zheng is also currently a shareholder of Yidian Zixun in Beijing.

So did you see the connections?

Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited was established on March 31, 1996, with headquarters in Hong Kong. It was initially a joint venture among Murdoch’s News Group, Today’s Asia Ltd. held by Liu Changle, and China Central TV (CCTV)’s subsidiary “China Wise International Limited.”

At that time, News Group and Today’s Asia both held 45 percent of Phoenix TV, while China Wise International held 10 percent. Liu Changle was appointed as the Chairman of the Board and CEO.

Phoenix TV was the first overseas TV station to be legally allowed to broadcast in China. It was granted landing rights by the National Radio and Television Administration of China in 2003.

Phoenix TV, Liu Changle, and the CCP

 Phoenix TV has long since been known as a mouthpiece of the CCP, although its headquarters is in Hong Kong. Its news reporting has always been consistent with the stance of the CCP.

Liu Changle once said, “CCTV is the big brother, we are the little brother.”

A commentator told the Chinese edition of The Epoch Times in 2005 that when entertaining his guests at a banquet in Shenzhen in 1998, Liu Changle said that the CCP’s Ministry of State Security had given him $2 million for him to set up a television station.

 Liu Changle was born in Shanghai on Nov. 5, 1951. His father Liu Xiangyi was a senior CCP official.

Liu joined the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of the CCP around 1970, and served as an officer in the political propaganda department of PLA’s 40th Group Army in Liaoning Province. 

From there he somehow went to study at Beijing Broadcasting Institute, which later became the Communication University of China, and graduated in 1980.  

I guess it was the CCP army that sent him to study there, because during that time there were no entrance examinations for universities. Students were admitted through a so-called “recommendation system”. If you behaved well, and the CCP liked you, you could go to study in universities via “recommendation” by your workplace, or your local CCP leaders. 

After graduating from Beijing Broadcasting Institute, Liu Changle joined the Central People’s Broadcasting Station (later translated as China National Radio) in 1983 and worked as a reporter, editor, and news commentator. He was then promoted to the rank of senior management, and was sent overseas by the CCP in 1988.

In June 2006, China Mobile Communications took a 19.9 percent stake in Phoenix TV, and Liu Changle’s Today’s Asia thus became Phoenix’s largest shareholder with a 37.54 percent stake.

And who is behind China Mobile? It is Jiang Mianheng, the eldest son of former CCP leader Jiang Zemin. Jiang Mianheng has been called the “King of China Telecom” for many years in China. 

After China Mobile’s investment in Phoenix TV, Liu Changle obtained absolute control over Phoenix TV.

Phoenix New Media called this acquisition a major breakthrough, because before this acquisition, there was another shareholder who held the same amount of stake as Liu. After this acquisition, Liu Changle’s company became the biggest one. 

In 2009, late Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Szeto Wah said that “not only is Phoenix TV a CCP-funded and controlled media, but the main people in charge also have a national security background. Since no one believes what Beijing’s CCTV says, they are using Phoenix to suppress dissidents.”

Jeff Zheng and Yidian Zixun Help the CCP Control Internet Information

 When Jeff Zheng was the CEO of Yidian Zixun, he brought in Phoenix New Media as a shareholder and quickly turned Yidian Zixun into an official voice of the CCP.

According to Sina.com, by the way, you can see this is also an archived copy of that article. I always archive CCP’s articles, because if you don’t, they can be deleted.

Anyway, this article says that the CCP’s Internet Information Office, which is in charge of controlling information on China’s internet, brought the internet information offices of 31 provinces onto Yidian Zixun’s platform, and this would turn Yidain Zixun into “an all-around publishing platform of the Internet Information Office focused on spreading the spirit of Xi Jinping’s speeches and strategic ideas.”

The article also says that Yidian Zixun established in-depth partnerships with many local governments, including 116 new official media outlets in Xinjiang.

In addition, many government and military departments; the Belt and Road Initiative; and more than 8,000 self-publishing media personnel, industry elites, celebrities, opinion leaders, and entertainment stars all set up accounts on Yidian Zixun’s platform, creating huge attention and rapid growth for Yidian Zixun.

So, one year after that article was published, in 2017, Yidian Zixun became one of the top 3 apps in the personalized news industry.

A 2016 report of the CCP’s State Council’s science webpage described how Yidian Zixun used “long tail” personalized technology to help the CCP’s propaganda and information control efforts in Xinjiang by “enabling the localized and accurate delivery of government information and full coverage of information in Xinjiang,” and “telling the Xinjiang story well.”

News Break is the English Version of Yidian Zixun

 We talked a little bit of News Breaking being the “English version” of Yidian Zixun a while ago. Now let me give you some further evidence and how deep the connections are.

On April 30, 2015, the Phoenix website published an article with this title: “Yidian Zixun Enters the US, Founder Goes to Supervise the Battle”.

The article says, “Recently, Yidian Zixun announced the latest progress of its internationalization strategy: the founder will go to the United States to supervise the English market, and has recruited more than a dozen senior engineers and scientists in Silicon Valley, and will launch the English version [of Yidian Zixun] at the end of the second quarter.

“According to an official statement by Yidian Zixun, the establishment of its U.S. company is a key step in the globalization of Yidian Zixun, which will use the world’s first ‘interest-based engine’ to enter the U.S. market and take advantage of the founding team’s resources and contacts in the United States to replicate Yidian Zixun’s successful model and become a truly innovative Chinese Internet company with global technological influence. ”

Now, let’s check the bigger picture of this matter.

At the end of 2015, the CCP proposed to construct a “1+6+N” model of international propaganda work. What you are seeing is a very, very long article published at the CCP’s most important mouthpiece The People’s Daily regarding strategy and the achievements of the CCP’s international propaganda campaign in the past 40 years. The title of the article is, “Linking China and Foreign Countries, Communicating with the World: A Review of the Development of International Propaganda in the 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up.”

According to this article, a  “1+6+N” model was proposed. 

And what is the “1+6+N” model?

Another long article published in the Global Media Journal of Tsinghua University gave us some explanation. 

The title of this article is “Three Waves of China’s International Communication (1978-2019).” Or we can also translate it as “Three Waves of China’s International Propaganda Campaign”, as the CCP’s communication is just propaganda. We all know the CCP has a Ministry of Propaganda, right? The CCP itself calls it “Ministry of Propaganda”, and they don’t think there is anything wrong with the word “propaganda”, or what lies behind the word “propaganda”. They are the things the CCP must do to brainwash people. 

Anyway, the article says, on Feb. 17, 2016, Xi Jinping first proposed building a “flagship international communication media with Chinese characteristics.” With the establishment of China Global Television Network (CGTN) in December 2016, it then became clear that the role of “1” should be filled by CGTN, “6” referred to the CCP’s six major mouthpieces of People’s Daily, Xinhua News, CCTV, China Radio International, China Daily, and China News Service, and “N” is for other English-language websites, platforms, and institutions that have the potential to “perform international communication functions” for the CCP.

So, if we use this model to measure it, News Break falls into the “N” category. “N” means “numerous”  here. 

 How Will the CCP “Own America”? 

 So, what are you thinking now after learning all the facts I just presented?

Do you know what I thought when I first found out about these shocking facts and connections?

Joe Biden recently said that Xi Jinping told him that China will  “own America” in the next 10-15 years.

So do you think that is only a joke? How will the CCP “own America” ? By buying over all the lands? Kill all the people in the US and send their people here?

Well, maybe they would if only they could.

But how about feeding Americans with CCP controlled information, and little by little, changing people’s thoughts, shaping their views, and the way they look at things, and making them think exactly the same way as the CCP does? 

If the CCP can achieve that, they own America already, and with the least cost.

So do you really know everything about the CCP’s ways and strategies? Why could News Break become the No. 1 News app in the US within just 5 years? 

The other day I saw a sentence: “You don’t know what you don’t know.”  On the surface, it sounds silly. Of course I don’t know what I don’t know. But digging further, you will realize the terrifying reality about how others, including AI are controlling what you know and what you don’t know. 

So don’t you think the CCP will “own America” a lot faster with 45 million Americans using the News Break app, and being fed information by this CCP controlled “interest-based engine”?  I learned from a reader of the Epoch Times that when he bought a phone from T-mobile, this app was already pre-installed. 

By the way, I am now also contributing to the Epoch Times on a freelance basis. 

I am glad to see the article I co-authored about News Break has been shared more than 300o times since it was published 2 days ago. A lot of people said they immediately uninstalled it after they read this article. 

So, I hope you can also share this show as widely as you can. The article I wrote for the Epoch Times is a new piece, and I couldn’t add any of my personal views in that article. 

But this show is my own, so I can freely express my thoughts here, which I believe are also very useful and important. So please do help us spread the message.

(Jennifer’s note: Today I saw my friend Cindy Li shared her family tragedy on Facebook. Her father in law was virtually killed by the fake Asian hate propaganda, as he dared not seek treatment after being infected by CCP Virus (COVID19) . Her mother in law almost died too, if she had not be found to be critically ill and sent to hospital by her son.

Right now both Cindy’s mother in law and husband are critically ill with CCP Virus. She asked her friends to pray for them.

She also called the CIK and cancelled their Chinese language service. When asked why, she said, “Your programs killed people.”

What a Painful Realization

In 2012, after my in-laws moved out to live on their own, I don’t know where they learned about CIK Internet Chinese TV, so they installed it.

There are many TV stations in mainland China, such as Hong Kong’s Phoenix TV, etc, [but not many in Canada). My husband told them many times that these TV stations are spreading poison and it is better not to watch them.

However, they feel uncomfortable living here without these Chinese TV stations and refuse to cancel it.

During last year’s US election, the local US media cursed a lot. The Chinese communist media were even eager to throw the U. S. into chaos, and reprinted negative information about the U.S. on a large scale, which cannot be called news because I believe many of them are lies.

As a result, my in-laws felt that Western society discriminated against Chinese and were afraid to tell us if they were sick, not wanting to go to the hospital for fear of being discriminated against.

My father-in-law died at home.

When my mother-in-law was very sick, my husband found out and took her to the hospital.

In the hospital, she found out that the Canadian medical staff treated her better than the Chinese children treated their parents! There is no discrimination here! And it is full of humane care, what the TV says are all lies.

She told me today that she wanted to cancel CIK’s Chinese TV service. What a painful realization!

I called [CIK’s] customer service and was asked the reason for cancellation and I told the lady truthfully that your TV show kills people ……

Hello, everyone, welcome to “Inconvenient Truths”. I am your host Jennifer Zeng.  

Today I will talk about several related topics: The serious problem of the Chinese vaccine, why the CCP doesn’t need to cover up its COVID death numbers, and whether the CCP will force people to have children after it suddenly made a U turn in its population control plan.  All are unique content that you won’t get from anywhere else. So make sure you finish watching it. 

Crowded Vaccination and Testing Sites

Before we talk about the vaccine problem, let’s watch 3 short clips first. 

So this video you are seeing was taken at the vaccination site at Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province in China. People scrambled to get vaccinated. It is not clear when exactly this video was taken, it should be some time before May 25.

This video was taken at the No. 2 People’s Hospital in Panyu District in Guangzhou City in China. It shows people rushed into the hospital to get vaccinated.  It is not clear when exactly this video was taken, it should be some time before May 27.

This video you are seeing is showing someone riding a motorcycle to try to find out how long the line was.  This one was taken on May 26, and it shows people lining up for emergency CCP Virus (COVID19) testing after a new round of outbreak in the city.

This guy rode for a long, long time until he reached the end of the line, which was at  Guangta Street Community Health Service Center, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, China. 

So that was on May 26.

I show these videos just to give you an idea that the pandemic situation is still very serious in China. Otherwise, people wouldn’t feel so panicked and fight so hard to try to get the vaccine. It has never been controlled in China, as claimed by the CCP. 

Death after only 5 Minutes After Receiving Chinese Vaccine

On May 31, authorities in Guangzhou City suddenly announced that vaccination would be stopped in the city. They said there were two reasons for this decision: 1. They need to focus on CCP Virus testing. 2. They need to prevent crowds from gathering, and to reduce the risk of cross infection.

However, according to a report by Radio Free Asia, the real reason is that the vaccine is ineffective against the mutated virus, so they stopped it. 

Not only is the vaccine ineffective, but can also cause grave problems. A woman whose surname is Lan, who works at China’s CDC,  told Radio Free Asia that a resident died only 5 minutes after he received the vaccine. 

This happened at Ningjin County in Hebei province on May 29. Two other residents showed very serious reactions and had to be sent to the ICU ward of No. 3 Hospital in Shijiazhuang City on the same day. 

This woman also said that there was another similar incident that happened yesterday (June 1) at the vaccination site at the Sports Center of Hebei province. 

A staff member at the No. 3 Hospital in Shijiazhuang City confirmed that there was indeed such an accident, and that patients with severe allergic reactions need to pay for the treatment themselves. 

Another important fact that Ms. Lan told was that the adverse reaction rate released by China’s CDC was fake, although she didn’t use the word “fake” directly, and just indicated it. 

She said, China’s CDC has released the adverse reaction rate of 11.86 per 100,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine. 

However, this number is only for the WHO to see, the actual rate is much higher. Some of her friends had very serious reactions too. And she herself has not got the vaccine. Not only that, she had stopped her mother from getting it.

Now, let’s see a social media post. This post on May 28 was by someone called Tian Yiqian. It says that it took her a long time for her to schedule the vaccination. However, after she received it, the reaction was so strong that she passed out. 

She was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, and it took 2 hours for the doctors to rescue her.  She had to pay for all the costs herself, and she regretted very much her decision to get vaccinated.

This is her follow-up post on May 29, saying that it cost her 5000 yuan, or about 783 US dollars for the treatment. What she received was the first dose of SINOVAC vaccine, and that she didn’t intend to get the second dose anymore.

This is also a post on May 29. It says, “The doctor said that my heart had started to fail and asked me to consider transferring to another hospital. But I don’t want to be treated anymore. ”

After that last post, she disappeared from the Internet. Her previous posts on Chinese social media platform Weibo were deleted. What you just saw were actually reposted on Twitter by a Chinese Twitter user in the US.

So basically that’s the situation in China. From what I know about the CCP, if there were not very grave problems with their vaccine, it wouldn’t have publicly announced that they would stop the vaccination. The CCP always tends to cover up any negative news.

No Numbers To Cover Up

When I was interviewed by India’s TV 9 two days ago, the host asked me about the COVID death toll in China, and when I told her it could be millions, or even tens of millions, she asked me how the CCP could manage to hide such a big number.

How to hide it? Actually there is no need to hide it. Why? Because there are no numbers, or no real numbers. Although they release fake numbers everyday, I never watched their numbers. I just regard it as no numbers. 

In the US, or any other countries that have a normal reporting or data collecting system, everyday the numbers are gathered together and released by a center, such as the CDC of that country.

China also has a CDC system, which also has branches in every province and cities. But we have to remember that all the big and small CDCs are controlled by the CCP. If the CCP doesn’t collect or release the death numbers, who else has the ability to collect the numbers from every city, every province and then add all the numbers together to get a national number?

Nobody.  

That’s why I said that the CCP doesn’t need to hide the numbers, as there are no numbers to hide.

This happened 18 years ago when SARS broke out in China too. The CCP ordered to have the epidemic controlled, and if local officials couldn’t control it, they got fired. 

And what could the local officials do? They told the central government that we had controlled it, no more new cases or deaths. 

But the reality was, they just blocked the information and let people die. The way for the CCP to control the epidemic was to control the numbers, and not the disease itself.  

 We read reports many years later about a whole village being locked down by CCP soldiers. They didn’t care if everybody in that village died as long as the information didn’t go out. 

There were also reports that thousands of SARS patients were taken to a remote suburb of Beijing. They were locked up in a camp. Nobody knows whether everybody had died there, or whether any of them survived.

Now let me give you another example. 

Earthquake in Sichuan province in China back in 2008

We all know there was a major earthquake in Sichuan province in China back in 2008, the year when the Beijing Olympics were held. 

Many students died, not because of the earthquake, but because of the bad quality of the school buildings, which are called Tofu buildings.

If the buildings’ quality had been good, and up to the standard, they wouldn’t have collapsed that easily, as many government buildings didn’t collapse at all during the same earthquake. 

School buildings suffered much bigger damage than government buildings.  So people of course would question the quality of the buildings, and who should be responsible for that. 

However, the CCP officials released conflicting numbers as to how many students died, how many Tofu buildings collapsed, etc. 

So some individuals made great efforts to try to collect the numbers themselves. They paid visits to survivors one by one, trying to find out the truth.  

And you know what? 

A writer in Sichuan, Tan Zuoren, got arrested and then sentenced to 5 years in prison in 2010, for trying to do his own investigation about the real death tolls of the earthquake, as well as about the Tofu buildings.

Some parents were arrested 50 times in 13 years for trying to constantly seek the truth of the deaths of their children, and for demanding their rights to know the truth.

Well, I share these “old” stories to make this point: There is no need for the CCP to hide the death tolls of the CCP virus pandemic in China, as there are no numbers. Only the CCP has the ability to collect and release the numbers. If it chooses to not collect or release the numbers, it is very hard for anybody else to have the numbers at all.

The reason why I said the death toll could be millions or tens of millions is based on the numbers of cellphone users released by the CCP itself, as well as the recent official national census results. 

According to CCP’s own census numbers, in 2020, 14.61 million people died, while in 2019, only 9.45 million died. So there were 5 million more deaths in 2020 compared to 2019.

So what’s the difference between 2020 and 2019? The only major one was the pandemic. So it is very reasonable for us to assume that at least 5 million people died of the CCP virus in China. 

A Sharp U Turn in the CCP’s Population Control Policy

Why do I say “at least”? Because the CCP’s census numbers are not to be trusted either. 

Remember I did a show about China’s sharply dropping population and said that China might no longer be the No. 1 most populous country in the world in early May?

Well, although the CCP managed to say that China still has 1.4 billion people when it finally released the results of its 2020 census after much delay, only about 20 days later, it suddenly announced that now every family in China can have 3 children instead of only1, or 2. That is a sharp U turn after it had been implementing its inhuman “One Family, One Child” policy for more than 40 years, and after as many as 400 million unborn babies, most of them girl babies, were killed via forced abortion. 

What can we make out of the sudden U turn? 

First, their census numbers are not to be trusted. China has much, much less people than the official number at 1.4 billion.

Second, too many people have died during the pandemic, and the CCP desperately needs to make that up by having people to have more babies. Otherwise the real situation of China’s population will be harder and harder to conceal from now on.

Third, China is suffering badly from the aging population, and lack of workforce. If not enough new babies are born, all sorts of problems will start to show themselves, and the consequences will be disastrous for the CCP.

Will the CCP Force People to Have Children?

That’s why people have started to worry that the CCP would soon force people to have children soon.

As a matter of fact, a CCP professor did make such suggestions as early as 2018. 

He wrote in an article about how to deal with the decreasing population: 

“[We] must rely on the leadership of the Party.  Only the strong leadership of the Party can solve this problem.

“First, party cadres should take the lead, take the lead in having two, three or four children, and give priority to promoting party cadres who have more children.

“Second, the Party Central Committee should establish strict control over the sale of condoms and contraceptives and never allow hospitals to perform abortions, and this should be introduced as a policy.

“The Party’s propaganda department should vigorously promote the propaganda of ‘more children bring many blessings’ and ‘one is too few, two is not enough, three is good, four is the best’.

“Party members and cadres of childbearing age who take contraceptive measures when having sex should be dealt with according to the violation of party discipline ……

“The more party members and cadres are having children, the more active the red gene of the population is, the more the political quality of the population will improve. The more offspring of party members and cadres, the less difficulties we will encounter in politics. 

“Only in this way can we as a nation avoid this disaster of collapsing population decline, and China can retain the norm of 800 million people with a scientific and reasonable population age mix and division of labor.

“‘Made in China’ needs people, science and technology revitalization needs people, protecting the country needs people …… with such a large country, we need a certain guaranteed population.

“Only if China’s population retention is around 800 million (at least it should be 600 million), the Chinese nation can talk about revival and progress!”

Well, that’s the suggestion of this CCP professor. His name is Nie Shengzhe. He has tons of different titles, including the Chairman of the Changjiang Civil Education Foundation, Executive Director of the Suzhou Research Institute, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Sichuan University, the director of the editorial board of the quarterly academic journal Chinese Art Series, etc.

And don’t think that was just his personal thoughts.

The one on the top was the old one, which says, “Abort it, Abort it, Abort it, whatever you do to it, you just cannot give birth to it!”

This slogan uses three different Chinese characters for “abortion” to say that people just cannot give birth to babies that were not allowed to be born.

The bottom one is new, which says, “Get pregnant, give birth to it and raise it. Whatever you do, You just cannot abort it.” 

Did you see the irony of these two slogans? They use very similar sentence structure, but express totally opposite meanings to reflect the CCP’s ever changing policy.

So that is how ridiculous things can be under the CCP’s rule. The CCP’s biggest problem is that it thinks it has the right to create rules for everyone and punish anybody who doesn’t follow its rules. 

In the meantime, it never thinks that it needs to follow any rules, especially international rules made by its enemies such as the United States.

The other day when I tweeted about holding the CCP accountable for its various crimes, someone left a comment and said, who is responsible for all the problems? Just go and take a look in the mirror. Yes, it is you, yourself. Every one of us is guilty when we allow the CCP to do evil to the world.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced on May 31 that families in China will be allowed to have 3 children. This sudden change in population policy has left many people stunned; and the public started to ask: Will the CCP force people to have children soon? If yes, how?

Actually, as early as 2018, Chinese professor Nie Shengzhe already put out some of his suggestions. In an article dated May 15, 2018, Nie wrote, because China had “overdone” with population control, it would soon face such a situation: The total population will be only 500 million, of which the elderly account for 450 million.

How do deal with it? Following is the direct translation of his original words:

Hello, everyone, welcome to “Inconvenient Truths”. I am your host Jennifer Zeng.  

Today I will talk about two topics: my 2 very important suggestions regarding how we should go ahead with the investigation of the origin of the CCP virus, or COVID19; and an old tactic the CCP used to bring down the previous government of China, the Kuomintang government, and why the US should watch out for this.

Two Suggestion for CCP virus Investigations

You must have already noticed that recently a lot of so-call mainstream media, scientists, politicians, etc., all suddenly started to talk about how the CCP virus, or COVID19, might come from the lab in Wuhan. The Biden administration just announced that it had ordered the U.S. intelligence agencies to redouble efforts to reach a conclusion about the origin of the CCP virus, and deliver a report in 90 days.

The Senate also passed a resolution calling for a probe into the origins of  the CCP virus yesterday (May 28).

I must boast this again, that I was more than one year ahead of all of them. 

I did a program early last May, and raised the possibility that the CCP virus might have come from the lab. I also did a lot of programs to expose the CCP’s cover up of the pandemic, and some hard and indirect evidence of the CCP’s cover-ups, such as the CCP’s internal documents, and the first hand account of a Wuhan resident. 

Programs I did about the CCP Virus

I started to compile evidence of the CCP’s cover-ups as early as last April. Actually, the purpose for me to start this channel is to expose the CCP.  If you haven’t watched my 2 minute mission statement that I uploaded last April, please do go back and take a look. 

Well, I don’t want to talk about why all this change of attitude suddenly happened, because I don’t want to comment on US politics here. I will only share two of my suggestions about how the free world should go ahead with the investigation, and how to hold the CCP accountable. I think they are very important. If you know somebody in the government, please do pass them on.

Suggestion 1: Offer Enough Incentive to Insiders to Come Forward

 First of all, don’t expect the CCP to be cooperative in this matter. It has been so long since the virus started to spread, and the CCP was given enough time to destroy all the evidence they could think of. I talked about how the CCP ordered to have relevant documents and data that are related to the pandemic to be destroyed before, even including medical records of the patients.

Then what can we do?

I think there must still be some people who know something about it; and there could still be some evidence that the CCP hasn’t been able to destroy. There could even be people who managed to hide some evidence. 

So just like sometimes the FBI or the police will give heavy rewards to people who provide useful information leading to the arrest of some wanted criminals, the US government, or other governments who also want to find out the truth about the virus, can also spread the message that people who provide valid information will be protected and heavily rewarded.

Safe channels should be provided to ensure that whoever wants to do so will be safe. His or her entire family should be allowed to migrate to the US first, etc. Make this information widely known to Chinese people, so that people who have the knowledge or the evidence can be encouraged and given enough incentive to come forward, either publicly or secretly. 

Suggestion 2: Start with the CCP’s Cover-ups

 Secondly, the investigation can focus on the CCP’s cover-up of the pandemic first. There is tons of evidence about this, and the CCP can hardly destroy them all, as some facts are already widely known, such as it once arrested 8 doctors who tried to warn people about the virus. It locked down Wuhan in Jan last year, while allowing Chinese people to travel to the entire world to spread the virus, etc. 

According to International Health Regulations, members of the World Health Organization (WHO) should notify the organization within 24 hours about events that may constitute a public health emergency of international concern. 

The CCP knew very well the nature of the virus, including that it is human-to-human. But it not only suppressed the information itself, but also forced the WHO to suppress it until it could no longer be suppressed, until the virus had already spread to the entire world, until it became impossible to contain it any more.

Even if we can’t find out direct evidence of the CCP’s either intentional or accidental release of the virus from the lab, the coverup alone is enough for the world to hold the CCP accountable. Every country, every victim can seek damage from the CCP. Governments can choose to freeze the CCP’s asset, etc.

I think everyone in the world is a victim of the virus, as the pandemic has changed everyone’s life. We no longer have the freedom we enjoyed before. Plus, we have lost more than 3 million lives already.

The CCP Fears the Investigation Most 

 Also, let me tell you that the CCP fears the investigation very, very much. 

After the US announced it would start the investigation, Hu Xijin, the chief editor of The Global Times, one of the CCP’s main mouthpieces, immediately posted on his Chinese social media platform Weibo to attack the investigation. 

Two hours later, he sent another post, which says, 

“Given the intensifying U.S. strategic containment of China, I would like to remind once again that we have many urgent tasks, but one of the most important is to keep rapidly increasing the number of nuclear warheads and strategic missiles like the Dongfeng 41 with extremely long-range and high survival capabilities. This is the cornerstone of China’s strategic resilience against the United States.

“We must be prepared for a high-intensity showdown between the US and China, at which point a large number of DF-41 and JL-2 and JL-3 will be the backbone of our strategic will. Our nuclear missiles must be so numerous that the U.S. elite will tremble at the thought of military confrontation with China at that time.”

He went on to say that by only being prepared like this, can we force the US to stay rational with our strength. We need to let them realize that what they will face are risks that they cannot afford to bear, etc.

So you see, this is a sheer nuclear threat, or blackmail. 

 Why did Hu Xijin suddenly renew his nuclear threat? Because the CCP really fears the investigation. I’d say this is what the CCP fears most right now. I only hope the investigation will be real, and not just a formality. 

Well, these are my suggestions. Again, please pass them on to decision makers, law makers, government officials if you know any. And tell them that I am a reliable source of information and opinion about China and the CCP. Ask them to subscribe to my channel, and follow me on social media platforms. 

Next, let’s move to our next top: the counterfeit money from China, and is the CCP using its old tactics to bring down the US? 

Fake Money Keeps Pouring into the US

 As large amounts of counterfeit money keep finding its way into the United States, a Chinese commentator reminds the U. S. of a tactic that the CCP used to overturn the Kuomintang government in the 1940s.

First of all, let’s go over a few recently cases:

On May 18, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that it had again intercepted several shipments of counterfeit bills from China totaling $685,000. 

On April 23, CBP officials in Chicago announced that they had seized 281 shipments containing counterfeit bills and coins, and 95 percent of them came directly from China.

On April 6, Chicago CBP officials announced that they had seized more than 100 shipments of counterfeit currency, almost all from China, with a total value of more than $1.64 million. 

In October last year, Chicago Customs announced it had seized more than $10.6 million in counterfeit currency between October 2019 and September 2020. Out of the 360 shipments seized, 280, or 78%,  came from China. 

In June 2020, the CBP intercepted a shipment of 100-dollar bills from Shanghai that totalled $351,500. 

In May 2020, $252,300 of counterfeit currency was seized in Cincinnati. The shipment was from Shenzhen, China, and headed to Oklahoma.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, China is the top country for smuggling counterfeit goods into the U.S. market.

CBP made 27,599 counterfeit seizures in fiscal year 2019. These goods would have had an estimated retail price of more than $1.5 billion if they were genuine.

Among the seizures in 2019, 13,293, or 48 percent, originated from China, followed by Hong Kong at 35 percent (9,778 seizures).

Well, we must say that these are only what the CBP was able to find and intercept.  How many others that the CBP hasn’t found and have already been circulating in the US? We have no idea at all. 

Will the CCP Try Tactics Used Against the Kuomintang On the US?

Tony Choi, a TV host in Hong Kong, said during his show on May 20 that the CCP is likely using the same tactics it used 75 years ago against the Kuomintang government, the legitimate government of China at the time, to also bring down the United States. 

Choi said, “If these counterfeit bills continue to be imported, they may bring down the U.S. economy.”

Choi believes that because we are in an electronic era, the impact of counterfeit bills on the U.S. will not be too great, but, “The CCP will use the fake money for criminal activities and illegal transactions including drugs and arms.”

In the 1940s, during China’s civil war between the CCP and the Kuomintang-led government, the Communist Party obtained large quantities of counterfeit currency from the former Soviet Union, and then sent it to the areas still ruled by Kuomintang using various underground channels.

As a result, there was a serious surplus of money in the Kuomintang ruled regions, and the prices of all sorts of goods skyrocketed. 

To tackle the problem, in 1948, the Kuomintang government decided to issue a new currency, the Chinese Gold Yuan, to replace the previous Fabi currency. 

However, this move paralyzed the flow of goods, prices continued to soar, and the Gold Yuan depreciated sharply. 

These eventually resulted in an economic collapse. Only 14 months later, the Kuomintang was driven out of China, and the CCP took power and established the People’s Republic of China. 

An article published in the “Weekend” magazine, whose publisher is the party branch of the CCP in Dongying City, Shangdong Province, also talked about the CCP transporting large amounts of Gold Yuan to the Kuomintang-ruled areas, after the CCP “confiscated” the Gold Yuan in the regions that the CCP took from the Kuomintang. 

They say the CCP “confiscated” the Gold Yuan because they of course couldn’t admit that they had printed fake money. However, they did boast about the fact that they brought down the Kuomintang by this tactic. 

The article said, the purpose for doing so was “ to hasten the complete collapse of the Kuomintang reactionary regime in Nanjing.” 

Tony Choi said, the CCP is likely doing what it had done before,  and “is using the same tactics, it used against the Kuomintang 75 years ago, to bring down the U.S.”

Finally, I have a question to ask you guys. Last time during my live streaming, someone left a comment, saying that he hopes that I can take some questions. 

Actually I was thinking about this myself.  The reason why I haven’t done so is that I am concerned if I take questions, the video will become too long, and for people who choose to watch the show after my live streaming, they may be discouraged to watch the show. They may think, oh, this video is 30 minutes, 40 minutes, too long for me to watch. 

I was told that the videos should be within 20 minutes, as that is the maximum amount of time that people want to give to a video of this kind that I am doing.

Today I will talk about a recently very hot topic: cryptocurrency. I will mainly discuss issues surrounding the world’s largest crypto asset trading platform, Binance, and a little bit of why the Chinese Communist Party, the CCP, is upset about cryptocurrency and especially Bitcoin. Lastly, I will talk about a new trending term and phenomenon in China among young people, which is called Lying Flat, or LyingFlatism, and why the CCP is also very upset about this. So make sure you stick around till the end. 

 Binance Coin Loses Third Place in Cryptocurrency Ranking

 The Binance Coin recently dropped out of the top three in the cryptocurrency market ranking as Binance is being investigated by U.S. and German authorities.

As of today, May 26, the Binance Coin (BNB) ranked fourth in market value at $55.5 billion. As late as May 17, it still ranked third, with a market value of $90.5 billion.

Why this sudden change? Of course there have been a lot of market volatilities recently, but Binance has some problems of its own. 

International Investigations 

Bloomberg reported this month that Binance is under investigation by the U.S.  government for issues related to money laundering and tax offenses. This is the third time in the past two months that the company has been investigated internationally.

In March, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) began an investigation into whether Binance had violated U.S. regulations by allowing U.S. traders to purchase digital derivative products. Binance is still not registered with the CFTC and is not qualified to provide crypto derivative services to U.S. residents. 

Crypto derivatives include products such as crypto contracts, options, and security tokens.

On April 28, the German Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) issued a notice stating that the stock tokens launched by Binance may have violated European securities regulations because it used the services of a German broker. 

Binance is required to remove its tokens from the German market this month, otherwise it will have to pay a fine of up to $6 million, or 3 percent of its annual revenue. Binance would also be held responsible for any losses incurred by investors in its stock tokens.

In response to these investigations, Binance tweeted on May 13, “We take our legal obligations very seriously and engage with regulators and law enforcement in a collaborative fashion.”

The company has recently hired some heavyweights to tackle regulatory compliance issues, and to improve public relations.

On March 11, Binance announced it has appointed Maxwell Baucus, a former U.S. Senator and ambassador to China, as its policy and government-relations adviser.

On April 11, Binance hired Brian Brooks, former Acting Comptroller of the Currency, as CEO of Binance.US. Brooks was previously the chief legal officer of Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency trading platform in the US.

Brooks said his top priorities include making Binance a “a robust  competitor to Coinbase” and to strengthen its regulatory compliance.

According to a 2020 report by blockchain analysis company Chainalysis, in 2019, $2.8 billion in Bitcoin was moved from criminal entities to exchanges—over 50 percent went to Binance and Huobi, which is another Chinese trading platform.

Leaving China to Evade Regulations

Binance was founded in July 2017 in Shanghai, China, by Chinese-Canadian Zhao Changpeng. It grew rapidly in the Chinese market using Chinese capital, and became the world’s largest cryptocurrency trading platform in January 2018.

Only two months after its founding, and only one week before the CCP began to tighten control and clamp down on the cryptocurrency industry, Binance shut down its China operations and moved its staff and servers to Japan, and has spent the last two years primarily in the US, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency markets.

Binance is now registered in the Cayman Islands.  It has no corporate headquarters and only an office in Singapore.

In 2019, it partnered with BAM Trade Services in the US and established Binance.US in San Francisco. BAM is registered with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a Money Service Business and can engage in the cryptocurrency business.

In an interview with Forbes China in April, Zhao  Changpeng  said Binance.US has so far obtained Money Transmitter Licensing in 37 U.S. states, 

but at the company’s website, there are only 32 states on its “Licenses” page.

Risky Business: Binance’s High Leverage

Binance is believed to offer trading in about 300 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as a variety of derivatives services. 

Currently, the derivatives trading listed on its website includes five major types of services, including contracts, futures, options, and leveraged tokens.

Binance also offers Bitcoin perpetual coin margined futures and USDT futures contracts, allowing leverage as high as 125 times the value of the contracts. These are highly risky derivatives, which are prohibited from being offered to U.S. residents.

The US is perhaps the most heavily regulated country in the world for cryptocurrencies and their derivatives, with four agencies jointly regulating the market: the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and three others we’ve already mentioned. 

Finding a ‘Short Cut’ in the Gray Zone

As Binance was founded in China, and Zhao Chanpeng is a Chinese, Chinese language media are very interested in covering their stories. 

One Chinese language report says, choosing a market that is not regulated or partially regulated is a “short cut” for the rapid growth of Binance. That’s why after the CCP introduced regulations in September 2017, Binance moved its operations to Japan.

In the following six months, while China’s major cryptocurrency exchanges were shut down, Binance took the opportunity to add 10 million users and generated $350 million in profits, quickly becoming the world’s top cryptocurrency exchange.

In March this year, Zhao Changpeng said that the company strictly adheres to U.S. regulations and has strong controls in place to prevent customers from money laundering.

But he also admitted that even though Binance was blocking U.S. access, U.S. users did find viable ways to bypass the block.

Data shows that more than 40 percent of Binance’s trading volume comes from the U.S. market.

According to The Block, there was nothing to stop U.S. residents from using Binance’s services. A user “just had to click ‘I’m not [American]’ to set up an account on binance.com” and trade directly on Binance’s website without any problems.

It wasn’t until November 2020 that Binance officially notified U.S. resident users that they must complete their withdrawals within 90 days.

The Chainalysis report also suggested that OTC (Over The Counter) brokers could be driving illicit activities in cryptocurrency exchanges. 

Chainalysis assembled a list of corrupt OTC brokers, and called them “Rogue 100.”

The report says, “70 of the OTC brokers in the Rogue 100 are in the group of Huobi accounts receiving Bitcoin from illicit sources. … We think it’s extremely likely that some percentage of the other highly-active Binance and Huobi accounts taking in illicit funds also belong to corrupt OTC brokers we’ve yet to identify.” 

OTC transactions are considered the most likely means of cryptocurrency trading to be used to launder money or to transfer assets across borders.

The report says individuals who do not want to trade on public exchanges can exchange cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, for a stable currency (such as USDT), through a legitimate OTC broker, and then they can exchange it for a fiat currency such as the U.S. dollar.

It is estimated that OTC trading can contribute to the majority of all cryptocurrency trading volumes. As of today, (May 26), the total crypto market volume over the last 24 hours is $163.21 billion.

Binance’s banking partner Crypto Capital is also not regulated. Two people, allegedly linked to Crypto Capital, were charged with money laundering in April 2019.

In October 2019, Crypto Capital president Ivan Manuel Molina Lee was arrested in connection to money laundering charges.

Playing ‘Tai Chi’ With the US

An in-depth investigative report by Forbes last October revealed that Binance.US “conceived of an elaborate corporate structure designed to intentionally deceive regulators and surreptitiously profit from crypto investors in the United States.”

Forbes obtained an internal document from Binance.US, which outlined a strategic plan for an unnamed company, dubbed the “Tai Chi entity,” to set up operations in the US, distracting U.S. regulators by pretending to be interested in compliance and then transferring revenue to the parent company Binance in the form of licensing fees, etc.

“All the while, potential customers would be taught how to evade geographic restrictions while technological work-arounds were put in place.”

Forbes says the leaked document is currently circulating among law firms, accounting firms, and others associated with Binance, and believes that the FBI and the IRS may have initiated an investigation.

Well, that’s pretty much the information of Binance I know of up to now. 

Now, let’s move to our next topic: Why is the CCP upset about Bitcoin?

Three Reasons Why the CCP Cracks Down on Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrencies

On May 21, the CCP’s Financial Stability and Development Committee held a meeting, which was chaired by CCP’s vice premier Liu He. Many people came to know him because of the trade talks between the US and China.

The meeting mainly emphasized two points, one is to crack down on Bitcoin mining and trading practices; the second is to maintain the smooth operation of the stock, bond and foreign exchange markets, crack down on securities violations, and severely punish financial crimes.

A while ago, in February this year,  Inner Mongolia already announced a complete halt to cryptocurrency mining in its territory, requiring all mining companies to withdraw by the end of April and encouraging the public to report those who haven’t. 

Remember I did a program about “The Secret Behind the Blackouts Across China”? In that show I mentioned that a lot of tech companies choose to set up data centers in Inner Mongolia because of its relatively cheap electricity price. 

As a matter of fact, more than 60% of the world’s Bitcoin mining activity is done in China for the same reason. That’s why the CCP’s policy about Bitcoin has a great impact on the global market. 

Recently a file is being circulated on the Internet, which says that as early as 2017, the CCP held a meeting led by the central bank and attended by ministries and agencies including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as well as some scholars and experts in the monetary and IT field. They discussed issues related to Bitcoin, but couldn’t reach an agreement as to how to look at the issues. So in the end, they decided, as we don’t fully understand it, we should control it first.

But on the other hand, the CCP has also invested in companies that do Bitcoin mining. It is possible that the CCP also wants to benefit from it, without losing control.

So the three reasons for the CCP’s control are: 

{1} First of all, cryptocurrency is a mortal enemy of the totalitarian state. Its decentralized nature prevents the state from manipulating the exchange rate, currency issuance, or inflation and deflation to plunder the people. It is freely exchanged, out of the control of the government. This of course will cause the CCP to feel threatened. The CCP doesn’t want to lose control over the market. 

{2} The second reason is that the CCP wants to promote its own digital currency, and is planning to start using it in the 2022 Winter Olympics. It has already begun rolling it out to domestic financial institutions. So it of course wants to ensure that its own digital currency will be dominant.

{3} The third reason is that the CCP doesn’t want Chinese people to move their assets out of China via cryptocurrencies. 

You know, in China, people cannot freely exchange their Chinese yuan into US dollars, or other foreign currencies. You need to have a quota to do so. Before the trade war with the US, people were allowed to exchange a maximum of 50K yuan per year. But since the trade war started, the CCP has been tightening its control. It is harder and harder for the Chinese people to move their money out of China.

So overall, the CCP won’t allow anything, including cryptocurrencies, to affect the so-called “stability” of the CCP’s regime. 

What is “LyingFaltism”？

Finally, I want to briefly share with you a very interesting term and phenomenon in China: Lying Flat, or LyingFlatism.

See this picture? This is what literally means by “Lying Flat”. You lie on the couch all the time without doing anything. 

And why can “Lying Flat” become LyingFlatism? Because this term, this concept, this philosophy is trending in China, especially among young people. 

Young people find that instead of studying hard, working hard and striving hard to advance themselves in society, they’d rather lower their living standards, and lying flat. They don’t want to work, earn money, buy a car , buy a house, get married, or have children, etc. 

As the opportunities are getting less and less in society, if you want to move forward and live well, you have to fight very hard and hurt your fellow men. All your efforts only end up driving up competition against peers. Your income rising is always slower than the rise of property prices. You cannot afford an apartment or being sick or having children, etc.

Also, if you do end up earning some money, the government will take it away somehow anyway. Chinese people call themselves “chives” that can be reaped by the authorities repeatedly. If you don’t grow, it is hard for the CCP to reap you again. 

So they’d rather lie flat and do nothing. 

Some people call this passive resistance, some even say this can also become a movement. 

However, if many young people start to lie flat, who will create wealth, and even children for the society? That’s why the CCP is very upset about this and started to criticize the so-called Lyingflatism too. Some say this is a great threat to the CCP’s regime. 

Well, it seems that so many things can become a threat to the CCP’s regime.  Maybe that’s why it won’t last long. Do you agree?
