Breaking: Bill To Designate the CCP As A Transnational Organized Crime Group Introduced

US Rep. Scott Gordon Perry (R-PA 10th District) made a speech at Capitol Hill on Oct. 1, 2020, announcing that he has introduced a bill to designate the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as a transnational organized crime group.

scott+perry.jpg?format=1000w

He said, “This morning I had the honor of introducing a bill in the United States House of Representatives, that assigns a title befitting the Chinese Communist Party, that’s a ‘transnational criminal organization’, because that’s what they are. They are criminals. This bill, what exactly it does is, it allows us to apply the Rico statues, the racketeering statutes, to those involved with the Communist Party.

“Whether they’re in China, or whether they’re in the United States of America, with real penalties including prison, going to prison for criminal activities on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party.

“This bill eliminates the sovereign immunity of the CCP, ensuring that even their diplomats who are working here, if they’re involved in criminal activity, they can be subjected to this.

“The CCP cannot be given a pass, cannot be absolved of justice, just because it’s ruling China, and that’s what’s happening. Because they can declare themselves the legitimate government of China, they’re allowed to get away with it. They are allowed to get away with oppression, concentration camps, all kinds of horrific things that you already know about, whether it’s the Falun Gong, whether it’s our friends in Mongolia, whether it’s taking over Tibet, all of it, that’s the end.

“And it’s criminal activity that must be recognized and stood against by the whole world community, and the United States must lead.

“I want to thank you for the opportunity to speak to you here today, and thank those of you for listening and thank those of you who are standing up, because when you do, when you stand up, you know, the Chinese Communist Party puts a mark on you, right? They are after every single one of us here, and they will do what they can to extinguish our voices.

“We’re not going to let them, because we’re going to stand together, and we’re going to do something about discouraging the Communist Chinese party, and we’re going to hold them accountable. We’re going to bring them to justice, and we’re going to end their tyranny. Thank you. God bless you!”

Rep. Perry also said, “Many folks from Tibet, Tibetan heritage, Taiwan, Uighurs, Mongolians all came to my office to talk to me about what’s happening to them and what has happened to them. And we simply cannot stand for it. We simply cannot allow it. It takes more than conversations, more than discussions. It takes action. Action is what is required.

“So I thank you for the opportunity to be here with you today. I’m grateful for your courage, standing up against a horrific tyrannical regime in China, the Communist Party of China, and I’m happy to stand with you and conviction against the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party.

“The CCP is an abject moral failure. You know this, it is decrepit, it is demonic, it is an institution that subjugates and enslaves the people it has dominion over.

“In the past hundred years, our world saw the rise of communism in the Soviet Union. And we witness freedom imperiled by evil. And we’re witnessing it right now today, right as we stand here, it is happening right now today.

“But it cannot be allowed to endure, just cannot be allowed to do endure. We are now confronted with this manifestation of communism and totalitarianism in the Communist Chinese Party.

“I will continue to, I will continue to tell everyone who cares to listen and even those who care not to listen over and over again, as many times as it takes, what is in front of us.

“We, we must be the generation that confronts and defeats and ends the wicked regime of the CCP.”

The following is the bill introduced today.

Evergrande: To Save or Not to Save? Is China’s Financial Crisis Coming?

Hello, everyone! Welcome to “Inconvenient Truths by Jennifer Zeng”.

“To be, or not to be, that is the question” for Prince Hamlet. “To save or not to save Evergrande”, that is the question for the Chinese government, or, rather, the Chinese Communist Party, the CCP. What is Evergrande? Why is “to save or not to save”  become “the question” for the CCP?  Is Evergrande’s situation an indication of a looming financial crisis in China?  What if the bubble bursts? Today, let’s discuss these issues.

What is Evergrande?

First of all, please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t. Sometimes people don’t receive notifications even if they are subscribed. So please come back to my channel every other day to check if there are new episodes.

Now let’s go to the real “first of all”, what is Evergrande?

China Evergrande is China’s largest real estate developer by contracted sales last yearAs of 2018, it was the world’s most valuable real estate company. In 2019, it ranked No. 138 on the Fortune Global 500 list. Its chairman Hui Ka Yan is the 3rd richest person in China and 34th on the Forbes Billionaires 2020 list.

In the meanwhile, Evergrande is also the world’s most indebted developer.

So now you have an idea of what Evergrande is.

A Letter Pleading for Help

Several days ago, on Sep 24, there suddenly appeared on the Internet a letter from Evergrande to the government of Guangdong Province, where Evergrande is based.

In this letter, Evergrande pleaded for government support to approve a restructuring plan that has languished for four years, warning it would face a cash crunch that could lead to systemic risks.

The letter says that Evergrande has been a good guy for all these years, never creating any trouble for the government. But now it needs support from the government. If it cannot complete its restructuring on time, it will have to return 130 billion yuan, or 19 billion US dollars, to investors and pay 13.7 billion yuan, or 2 billion US dollars, in dividends, and Evergrande’s debt ratio will soar to more than 90 percent, potentially causing a broken cash flow.

The letter also lists in detail all the debt Evergrande owes to a large number of banks and other financial institutions.

As of June 30 this year, the Evergrande Group has an interest-bearing liability balance of more than 835 billion yuan, or 122 billion US dollars,  involving 128 banks and financial institutions.

So what does this amount of 835 billion yuan mean? Let me give you a simple idea. Evergrande’s Chairman Hui Ka Yan’s hometown is in Henan Province in China. Henan province had the 8th highest annual revenue in China in 2019, which is about 404 billion yuan, only half of Evergrande’s debt level.

In other words, the total amount of debt that Evergrande has to pay with interest is more than the total fiscal revenue of Henan province in two years combined!

To give you an idea from another angle, Turkey’s total national debt is only 219 billion U.S. dollars. When Greece’s financial crisis broke out, its national debt was only 378 billion U.S. dollars.

In other words, the scale of Evergrande’s debt is more than half of Turkey’s national debt, close to one-third of that of Greece’s.

The letter goes on to say that a cash crunch of Evergrande will induce systematic financial risks, and cause cross-defaults in relevant banks, trusts, funds, other financial institutions, and the bond market.

The letter says that Evergrande has as many as 8441 upstream and downstream cooperative enterprises. So all these enterprises will be affected too.

The 4th risk listed in the letter is that employment and social stability will be affected if the government fails to save Evergrande, as it has 140,000 employees, 792 projects in 229 cities that provide jobs for 3.31 million people.  If those projects cannot be finished because of a lack of funds, 2 million people who already paid for those under-construction properties will also be affected.  And this in turn could cause mass protests all over the country.

Quick Denial -Analysts Not Convinced

The letter caused huge reactions both inside and outside of China. Some Chinese language media reports used such a title to describe the situation: “If you don’t save me, I’ll die and let you watch my death”. The hidden message behind it is: “If you don’t save me, watch me die and have everyone die together with me!”

On the same night, Evergrande issued a statement saying that the letter was fabricated and not true,  and that Evergrande had reported this matter to the police and reserved the right to defend its lawful rights with the weapon of the law, etc.

Also on the same day, China Evergrande’s share fell 5.58%,  while the share price of  China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group fell 8.63%. By the way, Evergrande became a listed company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2009.

Although Evergrande was quick to issue a statement to deny the letter, many Chinese analysts still tend to believe it’s true, for the following reasons:

  1. The debt amount in the letter is very close to the amount on Evergrande’s financial statement for last year. Other financial data listed in the letter are very close to the true figures too. It is impossible for an outsider to fabricate such a letter.

  2. The letter was dated August 24, just 4 days after the so-called “Three Red lines” were introduced for developers in China. The three red lines are a liability to asset ratio of more than 70%, net debt to equity ratio of over 100%, and cash to short-term debt ratio of less than 100%.

Unfortunately, Evergrande’s situation is worse than the red line level on every count, which means Evergrande will no longer be able to borrow money.  So people say that’s why Evergrande wrote that letter in despair only 4 days later after the “Three Red Lines” was introduced.

3. Another fact is that Evergrande started to sell its properties at a nationwide 30% discount from Sep. In some instances, the price cut could be as deep as 42%! It shows that Evergrande is indeed in desperate need to get cash back.

Blackmailing the Government

People also say that Evergrande purposely released the letter exactly one month after it was written, because it failed to get a response from the government. Chinese people call this action “逼宮”, which literally means force the king or emperor to do something. In modern English language, we can call it blackmail or extortion.

By releasing such a letter on the Internet, Evergande was virtually threatening the government: If you don’t save me, bear the consequences!

It was said that Evergrande’s letter was very well written because it hit right at the “pain points” of the CCP.

What are the pain points of the CCP?

In the past three years, the CCP has been pushing very hard for “Six Stabilities” and “Six Safeguards”. “Six Stabilities” refer to stability in employment, finance, foreign trade, foreign and domestic investment, as well as growth expectations.

The “Six Safeguards” are safeguarding employment, basic livelihood, major market players, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains, and the normal functioning of local governments.

Those “Six Stabilities” and “Six Safeguards” are the things that the CCP cares about most. If problems occur in these sectors, it could mean doomsday for the CCP.

So, Evergrande must have studied these very carefully and mastered their essence very well. That’s why its threats are very real: If I die, you lose one major “market player”; if my cash flow breaks, many banks will break too, and the stability of the financial sector will be no more. Millions of people will lose their jobs or lose the money they’ve already paid to buy properties from Evergrande.

Successful Blackmail

It turns out that Evergrande’s blackmail was successful. Bondholders, banks, senior government officials, China’s cabinet and its financial stability committee, chaired by Vice Premier Liu He, etc, have all become very alarmed and held meetings to discuss the risks posed by Evergrande.

Then,  yesterday, on Sep. 29, Evergrande announced that it had reached a deal with investors and that this will eliminate a looming January debt repayment deadline.

Under a 130 billion yuan ($20.39 billion) deal reached in 2017, Evergrande had issued convertible bonds with a pledge to either list its Hengda Real Estate unit on a Chinese stock market or redeem the debt. It has not been able to move forward with the listing plan.

Now, under the new deal, investors agreed to keep their shares and not require Evergrande to buy them out.

So, for now, Evergrande’s defaulting crisis seems to have passed. Its bonds and share prices have bounced back too.

An “Epic Bubble”   A Gigantic Monster

The question is, why did Evergrande encounter such a crisis in the first place, forcing it to use such an extreme measure to deal with it?

Actually, Evergrande is not the only one that has encountered such a problem. The total interest-bearing debts of the top 7 developers in China have reached 2.3 trillion yuan or 337 billion US dollars.  If other developers also encounter the same problem, will the government be able to save them as well?

For all these years, the competition in the real estate industry has been so fierce that every developer had to develop as fast as it could to expand its market share and to ensure its survival.

At the same time, China’s economy has been moving away from the real to the virtual economy for a long time, leading to the rapid expansion of real estate enterprises. People think that speculating in stocks and properties is a fast way to make money.

As a result, China’s housing prices have risen while empty homes have skyrocketed, creating an “epic bubble”. According to a survey, there were more than 65 million empty homes in China in 2017.

The property speculation boom of the past few years has led to an accelerated expansion of real estate companies, which have taken out more and more loans and incurred more and more debt.

The trade war between the US and China, as well as the COVID19 pandemic, have made things worse for the real estate market, which has already become a gigantic, strange monster.

On the one hand, China’s house price to income ratio has become the second-highest in the world,  and as much as 70% of residents’ wealth is locked in the real estate market. On the other hand, while many “ghost cities” were built, and many houses are empty, many people cannot afford to buy a property, or have a proper place to live.

“Too Big To Fail”?

We don’t know what all has happened during the past 5 days since the release of Evergrande’s “blackmail” letter and announcement of a new deal that can temporarily avert  Evergrande’s debt crisis. We don’t know what kind of behind the scenes things happened for Evergrande’s “strategic investors” to agree to such a deal. When Bloomberg covered this issue, they call Evergrande “China’s Too-Big-to-Fail Real Estate Giant”.

However, if the No. 1 real estate giant had to resort to such an extreme means as “blackmail” to force the government to save it, how about other developers? And how about many banks and local governments that heavily rely on continuous building up of the real estate market? If the price cannot hold up any more, and if the bubble does burst-and some people do believe it will burst soon, what will happen to this “too-big-to-fail” industry, as well as to China’s financial system, economy, and even to its political stability?

I am sure many people still remember the shock waves of the global financial crisis of 2007-2008. It was triggered by the bursting of the US housing bubble and the fall of the values of securities tied to US real estate.

With the current situation in China, can the CCP handle the possible bursting of the real estate bubble? Or some other bubbles? That is also a serious question to ask.

Thank you for watching. Truth can not only save lives but also help you save money if you can learn the true situation early on. I hope you find this episode helpful. Please don’t forget to subscribe to my channel, and check out my other videos you may have missed.

Thank you. See you soon!

The Fallen UN and the Rising New World Order

Hello, everyone! Welcome to “Inconvenient Truths by Jennifer Zeng”.

Today I will talk about what messages I see behind the speeches of US President Trump and the CCP’s head Xi Jinping at the recent United Nations General Assembly in New York; what I think will happen if Taiwan’s bid to rejoin the UN is vetoed by the Chinese Communist Party, the CCP;  why I use “The Fallen UN and the Rising New World Order” as the title for this show.  I will also share an exclusive, personal experience of covering an event inside the UN’s headquarters in New York as a journalist, and I hope that you can tell me what you think after listening to my true story.

How Will the US Hold the CCP Accountable?

I am not sure how many of you have watched President Trump’s speech at the UN. Anyway, in the very first paragraph, or only 19 seconds into his speech, he mentioned “China” right away:

Trump: “Seventy-five years after the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations, we are once again engaged in a great global struggle. We have waged a fierce battle against the invisible enemy — the China virus — which has claimed countless lives in 188 countries.”

Altogether he mentioned “China” or “Chinese government” 12 times in his 7-minute speech, and the most important message is this:

Trump: “In the earliest days of the virus, China locked down travel domestically while allowing flights to leave China and infect the world. China condemned my travel ban on their country, even as they cancelled domestic flights and locked citizens in their homes.

“The Chinese government and the World Health Organization — which is virtually controlled by China — falsely declared that there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission. Later, they falsely said people without symptoms would not spread the disease.

“The United Nations must hold China accountable for their actions.”

We all know that the COVID-19 pandemic has killed nearly 1 million people worldwide, and about 200,000 in the US; and many countries suffered tremendous economic losses because of the lockdowns.

So how much should the world ask for compensation from the CCP? And how can the US hold the CCP accountable?

For the economic losses, some said that the victimized countries should ask for compensation of at least one year’s GDP. For human life, I think none of us is capable of giving a price to it. No one knows how the US will hold the CCP accountable either.

The “New Evil Empire” and An  Undeclared, Unconventional War

But one thing is crystal clear. That is, since Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared that the “division” between the US and the CCP is “between freedom and tyranny”, and since the US government started to separate “China”, “Chinese people” and the CCP, America has made up its mind to not only decouple with the CCP, but to not to recognize its legitimacy, and even to destroy it completely.

We all know that the US destroyed the Soviet Union through the Cold War, after declaring the Soviet Union as the “Evil Empire”, and that the conflict between the US and Soviet Union was a battle between good and evil.

Not long ago US Senator Ted Cruz declared that the “CCP is the new Evil Empire”. In many senses, we can say that an undeclared, unconventional war has already started between the US and the CCP.

On the CCP side, “Unrestricted Warfare” has long since started against the US and the free world; only the world didn’t realize it.

On the US side, a national, all-out battle to fight back against the CCP’s “Unrestricted Warfare” has just started very recently, perhaps after the pandemic. In this sense, we can say that the US was very slow in realizing the danger and then thinking about how to fight back.

The good thing is, as the No. 1 democracy in the world if it has set the course, it will not stop until it reaches its goal.

“Whoever Has the Bigger Fist has The Final Say”

Xi Jinping also made a speech at the UN assembly. As usual, CCP officials’ speeches are full of lies, beautiful, big words and a lot of disgusting nonsense, and are not worth mentioning.

However, many Chinese netizens found two things very funny in Xi Jinping’s speech.

One was this part of his speech:

Xi Jinping: “Seventy-five years ago, China made historic contributions to winning the World Anti-Fascist War and supported the founding of the United Nations.”

People asked him: “Who is the ‘China’ you are talking about? Your CCP’s regime was only founded 71 years ago. So 75 years ago, that ‘China’ you mentioned was ruled by the KMT, or Nationalist Party, which is in Taiwan now. Are you recognizing that KMT’s ‘China’ is the real China, and an independent country? Are you recognizing that the Republic of China is the one that had made ‘historic contributions’?”

Another funny part of Xi Jinping’s speech was when he cried out that “Relations between countries and coordination of their interests must only be based on rules and institutions, and they must not be lorded over by those who wave a strong fist at others.”

That is the CCP’s mouthpiece Globe Times’ translation. If I am to translate it, I will put it this way according to Xi Jinping’s original Chinese words: “Relations and interests among countries can only be coordinated with systems and rules, and not by the fists of the more powerful”, or “It will not do to have whoever has the bigger fist have the final say.”

Why do people find this extremely funny and ridiculous? Because that is exactly what the CCP has been doing in the world. Because it thinks it has a bigger fist than many smaller countries, it has been bullying around all the time in the world.

Now, as soon as the US stood up against its bullying ways, and showed a little bit of its national power, the CCP immediately felt the pressure and started to cry that “Whoever has the bigger fist has the final say” is not the way to handle relations among countries.

The Fear Hidden Behind “Multinationalism”

Xi Jinping also mentioned the so-called “multinationalism” a lot in his speech. This, according to me, reflects his deep fear that the CCP will be excluded from a new world order because the world has grown tired of being taken unfair advantage of by the CCP.  Although Xi Jinping has been promoting the so-called “internal circulation” of its economy inside China, and CCP officials are boasting that Chinese people can survive for one year by only eating grass, the CCP knows very well that without the outside world, the CCP’s economy cannot survive on “internal circulation” or “eating grass”.

Will the US Withdraw from the UN?

Now, let’s move to Taiwan’s bid to rejoin the UN.  We discussed this issue briefly in our last show “Taking Back Mainland China Easier Than Seeking Taiwan Independence”. We mentioned that three countries including the US, Australia, and Swaziland had shown their support for Taiwan.

However, we should not forget that the CCP’s China has taken over the Republic of China’s seat in the UN, and has become one of the five permanent members of the Security Council. So it has the power to veto many things in the UN, including Taiwan’s UN membership.

What will happen if the CCP does veto Taiwan’s bid? According to Chinese commentator Wen Zhao, the US may consider withdrawing from the UN, like it has withdrawn from some other international organizations or treaties. The UN has become so corrupt that it is meaningless to maintain it.

A CCP’s “Bao Jia” at the UN

Talking about the UN’s corruption, I do have an exclusive and personal experience to share. Back in 2012, I was a reporter for the Chinese division of New Tang Dynasty Television, or NTDTV, in New York.

As NTDTV is one of the very few overseas Chinese language media outlets that remain independent of the CCP, and as it often covers CCP’s human rights abuses and other atrocities, the CCP hates it very much.

As a result, NTDTV has never been granted permanent media accreditation by the UN to cover events happening inside its Headquarters in New York. Reporters have to apply for a temporary pass to cover individual events every single time, and often get rejected.

So in 2012, before International Women’s Day, I applied for a one-day pass to cover a women’s forum inside the UN building. I was eventually given a pass, but on the condition that one of the UN media officials needed to “accompany” me at all times.

So, for the whole time I was there, a male official shamelessly followed me everywhere I went. When I interviewed people, he stuck his head so close to me that I could feel the heat of his breath on my neck and ear. He stayed so close to make sure that he could listen clearly to every word I said to my interviewees.

Furthermore, two very high profile officials, one from the US, one from Australia, ended up not receiving my interview after agreeing to it. The Australian official told me in embarrassment that because of the pressure he just received from the CCP, he had to decline my interview request. And the US official was virtually, physically dragged away from my microphone by her assistant after I had already started to ask her questions!

I felt so insulted. For a short moment, I felt like I was in the Chinese labor camp again.  You know, between 1999 to 2001, I was arrested 4 times and imprisoned for one year in Beijing Female Forced Labor Camp for practicing Falun Gong, a meditation and spiritual improvement practice.

Inside the labor camp, every Falun Gong practitioner was surrounded and monitored by criminals all the time. Those people were given a nickname “Bao Jia (包夹)”. “Bao” means to surround, to besiege. “Jia” means to clip, to sandwich, to put in the middle. So one Falun Gong practitioner was surrounded by several Bao Jia at all times, even when we used the restroom. No privacy, no human dignity at all.

The CCP did this to us to make sure that we could not talk to fellow Falun Gong practitioners. Even eye contact was not allowed. The CCP wanted to break our will by subjecting us to complete surveillance and isolation. And I hardly survived all the torture.

By the way, if you’d like to know more of my story, please search for my memoir “Witnessing History: One Woman’s Fight for Freedom and Falun Gong”, or the documentary “Free China: The Courage to Believe”.

Now, let’s go back to the UN building. Who would have expected that I would be enjoying the “privilege” of having a UN official act as my “Bao Jia” inside the UN building, and on American soil? And he was very loyal to his mission. He accompanied me the whole time, until I finished all my interviews, and then he saw me out of the building.

But before he let me go, he added another request, asking me to send a link to the report that I was going to do, so that he could check it!

I felt so insulted again. But I did send him a link to the report I did on the following day because for 1, I wanted to show him that as an NTDTV reporter, I was fully capable of covering a “normal” event like any other “normal” reporter. NTDTV reporters were not crazy people like what the CCP had told them.

The second reason was, I also had fear. I didn’t want to make things worse for NTDTV by refusing his request. He had the power to decline our media pass applications, right?

So, that is my true story of working with the United Nations’ media office. For such a small matter of me covering a small, non-governmental forum, the CCP still made such a big fuss. So for other big issues, such as Taiwan’s rejoining the UN, what kind of resources will the CCP put into stopping them? Why has the UN done so little, or nothing about the CCP’s vicious human rights abuses and other crimes for so many years? I hope now you have a better understanding.

A New World Order Without the CCP

So what is the “rising new world order” we mentioned before? I think the biggest thing in the world now is that righteous people and righteous nations are standing up against, defeating and eliminating the CCP from this world, and forming a new world order without the CCP.

At the end of his speech, President Trump said this:

Trump: “I am supremely confident that next year, when we gather in person, we will be in the midst of one of the greatest years in our history — and frankly, hopefully, in the history of the world.”

I sincerely hope that if we do celebrate next year, we will be celebrating a world without the CCP.

That’s all for today. Thank you for watching. Someone told me that he couldn’t subscribe to my channel, or like my videos. Unfortunately, it seems that the CCP’s power and infiltration do not only stop at the United Nations. It’s almost everywhere now. So I do need your support to spread the message. Please make sure you subscribe to and share my channel, and check out my other videos.

Thank you. See you next time!

“Taking Back Mainland China Easier Than Seeking Taiwan Independence”

Hello, everyone! Welcome to “Inconvenient Truths by Jennifer Zeng”.

Since I talked about the fast-changing relationships among the US, China, and Taiwan, many new significant events have happened in the past few days. People are asking: What’s next? Will the US resume formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan? What did Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen mean by “Taiwan is determined to take a crucial step” when she met US Under Secretary of State Keith Krach in Taiwan? What is the significance of Ms. Bi-khim Hsiao changing her title from “Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office ” to “Ambassador to the US”? Will the CCP attack Taiwan as promised if Taiwan does “take a crucial step” that crosses the CCP’s “red line”? Is it easier for Taiwan to take back Mainland China than seeking independence? Today, let’s discuss these important issues.

A Series of Major Events

First of all, subscribe to my channel now so that you get my regular updates.

Second, let’s check some of the major events in the past few days.

On Sep 16, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft had lunch with James Lee, Taiwan’s top official in New York. Kelly Craft called this meeting “historic” and a further step in the Trump administration’s campaign to strengthen relations with Taiwan.

On Sep 17-19, US Under Secretary of State Keith Krach visited Taiwan.  This is a visit by the highest US official in more than four decades and happened just about one month after another high level US official, Alex Azar’s visit.

Compared to Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar’s visit, the purpose of Krach’s visit was kept fairly vague. Nothing very specific was announced or mentioned.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen hosted a banquet for Krach on Sep 18 and said that  “Taiwan is determined to take a crucial step” at the banquet without specifying what the “crucial step” was.

Then, one day after Krach’s visit to Taiwan, Ms. Bi-khim Hsiao changed her title on her Twitter account from “Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office” to “Ambassador to the US”.

Prior and after Krach’s visit to Taiwan, from Sep 16 up to now, the CCP’s fighter jets, bombers, and antisubmarine patrol craft entered Taiwan’s air-defence identification zone from multiple directions for multiple times, and the CCP’s media used such a title when talking about Krach’s visit: “It’s heroin but Taiwan treats it like a cure.”

On Sep 19, the CCP’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force released a video that showed nuclear-capable bombers attacking what appeared to be U.S.’s Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.

In the meantime, on Sep 22, the defence ministry of Taiwan made major changes to its military’s combat readiness regulations, allowing forces to fire back in self-defence. This means that Taiwan’s military does not have to abide by its previous rule of not firing the first shot. Under the changed regulations,  Taiwanese forces on the front line will be able to fire the first shot if they determine that the enemy intends to attack.

Crossing the CCP’s Red Line

Well, what I just mentioned was a very quick summary of what happened in just a few days. Now let’s do a little bit of analyses.

Why did Kelly Craft call her meeting with James Lee “historical”? Because it is indeed historical. The CCP has been very tough on its “One China Principle”, and anyone, or any country who dared to challenge this would surely trigger a very aggressive and “angry” response from the CCP. So people have been very careful not to cross this red line of the CCP’s.

I am not sure whether you still remember, that as recently as two years ago, US airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and some others were forced by the CCP to remove “Taiwan” from their websites? According to the CCP, American airlines couldn’t display a country label for Taiwan, or show the word “Taiwan” in their booking systems. As independent big companies in the US, these airlines submitted to the CCP’s pressure and did remove “Taiwan” from their websites.

But now, 2 years later, the US is showing the CCP that it doesn’t care about the CCP’s red lines anymore.

Getting Taiwan Back to the UN?

Furthermore, the fact that the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations was meeting  Taiwan’s top official in New York indicates that the US could be seeking to help Taiwan return to the UN.

Gary Cowan, Representative at the Australian Office in Taipei, expressed his support to Taiwan in a tweet on Sep 21, saying that “We welcome Taiwan’s continued contributions to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals and developing universal health coverage.”

Swazi Prime Minister Ambrose Dlamini also voiced support for Taiwan’s UN membership at the 75th secession of the UN General Assembly.

What is Taiwan’s “Crucial Step”?

Then what about  Tsai Ing-wen’s expression that “Taiwan is determined to take a crucial step”?

This statement of hers has sparked a lot of speculations, as well as threats from the CCP. Many overseas Chinese commentators said that this means that Taiwan is ready to establish, or rather, resume formal diplomatic relations with the US if the US calls the shot.

The fact that Ms. Bi-khim Hsiao changed her title from “Representative” to “Ambassador to the US” also gives a strong indication that things could move towards this direction. Although Bi-khim Hsiao explained later that “Taiwan Ambassador is what many call me and also my job description. My title remains Representative… when engaging with the US government”, the fact that she changed it on the next day of Krach’s visit still made people believe that there is already some kind of understanding reached between Taiwan and the US.

Otherwise, it is impossible that as the top diplomat, Hsiao would have changed her title out of some sudden whimsy.

If she had changed it because “Taiwan Ambassador” is her “job description”, she had been doing this job for quite a while now, why the sudden change now?

What’s more interesting is Tsai Ing-wen’s response to the title change. When asked about this very sensitive matter, Tsai Ing-wen said that Bi-khim Hsiao has been working very hard to strengthen the relations between the U.S. and Taiwan and that she believed that Hsiao will continue to do so no matter what title she carries.

Please note that Tsai Ing-wen didn’t say that Hsiao should not change her title, but praised her for her “hard work” instead. So we can view this as Tsai Ing-wen’s support for Hsiao’s changing of her title.

Will the CCP Use Force Against Taiwan?

Now, the question is, if the US and Taiwan really resume formal diplomatic relations, how will the CCP react? Will it use force against Taiwan as they have been threatening all the time?

Many overseas Chinese commentators are saying that the CCP dares not to attack Taiwan, as Taiwan’s military capability is strong enough to deter the CCP. Plus, the US will not let the CCP invade Taiwan without intervention. If the US intervenes, there is no chance that the CCP’s army can win.

Faking the Propaganda Video with Hollywood Movies

We mentioned that CCP’s PLA released a video showing bombers attacking what looks like the U.S.’s Air Force Base in Guam. That video portrays PLA’s airforce as a formidable and powerful army. However, netizens found that the CCP actually used clips from Hollywood movies in its video that was supposed to be displaying the real scenes and the real power of the CCP’s air force.

For example, this clip was taken from the Hollywood movie “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in 2009. This clip was taken from The Rock in 1996, and this clip was taken from the Hurt Locker in 2008.

So, for a 2-minute propaganda video, the PLA had to use clips from three Hollywood movies to show its marvels. So how will such an army perform in a real war? People do question this.

A Difficult and Awkward Position for the CCP

Some people also say that if Taiwan does resume its formal diplomatic relations with the US, that will put the CCP and Xi Jinping in a very difficult and awkward position.

If they declare war against Taiwan, the result could be the end for the CCP, because that would offer the US a perfect ground to strike off the CCP.

If the CCP and Xi Jinping don’t declare war against Taiwan, what can they say to their own people to save their face? For all these years, “liberating Taiwan” has been portrayed as a “sacred” mission for China, how can the CCP back off from it?

Options for the US

Now, another very important question is: How will the US and Taiwan handle their relations with the CCP afterwards?

For the US, it has several options:

  1. Continue to adopt its “One China” policy, but regard Taiwan, or the Republic of China, as the legitimate “China”, while regard the CCP’s regime as an illegal one, and help the Republic of China to take back Mainland China.

  2.  Abandon its “One China” policy, and treat both Taiwan and the CCP’s China as independent countries.

  3.  Maintain its “One China” policy, recognize Taiwan and the CCP’s China at the same time without defining who is “China”.

  4. Maintain its “One China” policy, and try to promote a federal system, in which Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao can all remain independent and autonomous.

“Taking  Back Mainland China Easier than Seeking Taiwan Independence”

And what are Taiwan’s options? Instead of listing all the possibilities, I’d rather talk about one comment from an unknown Chinese netizen that impressed me very much.

I saw this comment more than 10 years ago when the Taiwanese President was still Chen Shui-bian. And this comment was: “Why does Taiwan bother to seek independence? Taking back Mainland China will be so much easier!”

Why was I extremely impressed by this comment? Because:

  1. It reflected the wish of many Chinese people in Mainland China. They hope that the Republic of China can “liberate” mainland China which is occupied by the CCP.

  2. If we think hard, we will find that this seemingly careless comment contains great wisdom. The Republic of China represented now by Taiwan was the legitimate government of China in the first place. It was the CCP that founded an illegal Communist regime within China, and overturned the legitimate government of the KMT with all sorts of despicable, and even evil means.

For example, in the so-called Siege of Changchun in 1948, when the CCP tried to seize the city of Changchun from the KMT, the CCP prevented the civilians from leaving the city to exhaust the food supply of the KMT defenders.

As a result, as many as 150,000, some say 300,000, civilians were starved to death. That’s just one of the evil means the CCP used to defeat the KMT. The world should not have recognized this kind of “victory” and this kind of killing regime in the first place.

Furthermore, for many Chinese people in Mainland China, emotionally, it is easier for them to accept a “united China” ruled by a democratic government than to accept a “fragmented China” that is divided into different countries.

The Republic of China was once proudly the first democratic republic in Asia, and one of the founding members of the UN. It remains a vibrant, prosperous, and benign democracy today that can join forces with the free world to fight against the CCP’s evil and aggressive expansion. It is fully legitimate for the Republic of China to reclaim sovereignty of Mainland China, and the US, as well as the free world, owe Taiwan a lot when they recognized the CCP’s regime and agreed to have Taiwan driven out of the United Nations.

The last question is, is Taiwan ready? For me, this is the real “critical step” for Taiwan to take. Although it might sound very astonishing and challenging on the surface, it may turn out to be so much easier than seeking independence, as that unknown Chinese netizen had said many years ago.

OK, that’s all for today. Truth, no matter how inconvenient, does save lives. Please do subscribe to and share my channel, leave a comment about what you think about what we discussed today, and check out my other videos you may have missed.
